Studies
of the Mendicant Missionaries
"And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free"
(Jn 8:32).
Taking to heart the importance of Truth in the Christian life, the young missionaries
are committed to solid, orthodox, and faithful philosophical and
theological formation as one of their pillars of personal
sanctification and apostolate.
That is why the aspirant and
postulant Mendicants begin their academic formation taking classes
inside the Domus. The classes are divided in the following areas:
languages, anthropology, theology, spirituality, and religious life.
These classes help to acquire a more comprehensive formation for the religious
missionary life. Older brothers and different magnanimous,
devout, and faithful bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and other
lay theologians are invited to impart this weekly formation.
Later on in the formation path, the junior missionaries begin a full load
of undergrad or grad classes at
Sacred Heart Major Seminary, in
Detroit. The academic programs they can study are:
Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Bachelor
of Philosophy, Master of Arts
in Theology (with various concentrations: e.g. New Evangelization,
Systematic Theology, Sacred Scriptures, etc.), or Licentiate in
Sacred Theology (S.T.L.).
For those
missionaries that are foreign and need proficiency in the English
language, we have found some schools that teach them good ESL
(English as a Second Language) classes in the meantime that they
enter into the full academic load at the seminary.
