Become a
missionary!
There are two ways by
which you can become a missionary at the Domus:
The first option is for those
men and women who feel called by God to live as consecrated persons
in our mendicant missionary community under our charism, way of
life, and stages of formation.
The second option is for those
young men and women (ages 18-30) who want to spend a year of their
lives living in the community of the Mendicant Missionaries in order
to discern God's will in their lives, receive a more profound
spiritual formation, share in our charism and way of life, and be a
missionary in our apostolate activities.
Some of the requirements that you need in
order to qualify for our austere, yet joyous, community life are:
-
desire to serve God and his
people, not to be served
-
openness to the Holy
Spirit's action in your life and the gifts He wants to give
-
detachment from the things
of the world (personal possessions, money, clothes you like,
food you like to eat, technology, class schedule preferences,
personal appearance, etc.) and family/friends ties
-
obedience and willful
submission to all the teachings and precepts of the Catholic
Church
-
have a disposition for
obedience to the superiors, way of life, and statutes of the
community
-
have a desire to live poor,
chaste, obedient, and practicing some forms of asceticism (like
fasting)
-
have a disposition to
travel all over with the minimum necessary and learn other
languages
-
be community-oriented and
not self-oriented
-
have a healthy,
age-appropriate human maturity
-
be responsible, diligent,
and hard worker even in the little things
-
be at least 18 years of age
-
right intention in wanting
to join
If in your prayer you think that God may be
calling you to spend a year of your life with us in the Iuvenes
Rosae Mystica program, or if you think that He may be calling you to
belong to the Mendicant Missionaries community on a permanent basis, give us a call or write to us to schedule an initial visit to our
community and begin a discernment process with one of our
missionaries.
Some preliminary steps that you can do in
order to further foster your discernment process are:
-
a quick online "Test Your
Call"
survey about your vocation and call to the religious life
from the Institute on Religious Life. This gives you an
initial basic idea of hints of God's call to the
consecrated/missionary life. You can email/send us your
results.
-
two, eight-day
online retreats from the
Institute on Religious Life: The first retreat entitled "LifeWork"
is a good first step if you are not sure were God is calling
you. It goes more along the lines of our Iuvenes Rosae Mysticae
program. The second retreat "Responding to God's Call"
deepens the understanding of the theology of a vocation to a
consecrated life. This retreat helps you more if you want
to become a member of the Mendicant Missionary community.
-
pray a lot, especially
before the Blessed Sacrament, with the simplicity of a child
knowing that our Heavenly Father listens and responds to your
concerns about your life. Thursdays are special days for
adoration and discernment. Committing to an hour of
adoration before the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday, with the
intention of discerning your vocation, will be an extraordinary
way to listen His voice and dispose your heart to do what He
says.
-
come
for an initial weekend or week-long visit with the Mendicant
Missionaries. After that, you will have a better
idea of how one community lives the consecrated life in
fraternal love.
